Your Birthday

A poem

It’s your birthday,
I don’t know why other people don’t remember birthdays,
But I remember yours,
Even though we haven’t spoken in years.

I didn’t forget the dates that were special for us,
Not even what we agreed to do year after year,
In the place of our first meeting;
I went there,
One year later,
But not you.

I won’t lie and say I don’t feel like sending you a message,
But why bother?
(My pride is greater.)
Or live on the dilemma,
If you love someone, set them free,
If they come back, it’s yours,
If not, it never was.

But I will fight my pride,
And write here,
Happy Birthday!

And be happy.
